Essential Elements of Literacy provides an analysis
of and practical strategies for the five areas of reading instruction
phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension.
Assessment in Literacy develops a clear understanding
of the types and functions of reading assessments used to effectively
measure student readiness, progress and the need for instructional
interventions. These include screening tools, progress monitoring
tools and outcome assessments.
Leadership for Literacy presents a clearly defined
understanding of instructional leadership centered on the key elements
of prioritization, scientifically-based research, alignment, data
analysis and a culture of continuous learning.
Early Childhood Literacy examines developmentally
appropriate oral language and phonological awareness practices and
the research supporting them, including: interactive read-alouds;
shared reading; guided play; modeled writing; and independent reading
and writing.
Adolescent Literacy addresses the research and
practical information needed to help students become better readers,
including: reading strategies and skills across the curriculum;
before, during and after reading; discussions to deepen learning;
building vocabulary; improving motivation; guided practice; and
using literature in the content areas.
